Plugged chats to Paul Macmillan from Perth based thrashers: Threshold Sicks. After finally dragging him out of the pit, we asked him a few questions about the band.
Tell us a bit about yourself, who are you? Where are you from? When did you start playing?
We’re mostly from the woods between Perth and Dundee, but our drummer Ivan is from Slovakia.
Describe your music in three words?
Uncompromising ogre-ish grooves.
Who would you list as your main musical influences?
The most obvious ones are probably Pantera and Testament, but we all bring something individual to the table. For instance, I’m the only one in the band who likes punk music, and Ivan is into some really obscure jazz artists. Lots of things from musicals, eastern circus music, eighties TV theme tunes… The list is endless.
If a promoter or venue wished to book you, how should they go about it (contact details)?
Offer us money instead of a rider! We’re country boys. We can make our own moonshine! Really, just get in contact and sound like you know what you’re talking about.
What are you currently up to music wise? Writing / recording / rehearsing?
We’ve just done a heck of a lot of touring. After doing a stint in Northern Ireland with Existing Threat, we came back here and supported our Hawaiian brothers Corrupt Absolute on the Scottish leg of their European tour. So, now we’re taking a break from the stage for a couple of months to concentrate on lining up our first full length. The recording’s done. The mixing’s almost done. We’re also re-arranging some the other songs we’ve got going already. There’s at least another two albums worth of ideas, but only about a third of those are finished songs.
When are you next playing live?
Anyone who knows what we’re like can probably guess the gigs are lining up pretty quick, and we’re working on possible plans of hitting the States in 2011 already. It’s best to do these things as far in advance as possible.
